NEW CONCORD -- After dropping the opener 10-6, the Muskingum University Lady Muskies bounced back in the nightcap to grab a 5-3 decision for the split with the visiting Denison University Lady Big Reds in non-conference action Monday.Carissa Diebler (3-1) twirled a complete game for the win with three strikeout and four walks. Nikki McCoy (4-2) got the start for the Lady Big Reds and struck out one and walked five in four innings. Leslie Brenner tossed the final two frames adding no strikeouts or walks.Muskingum opened with five runs in the first four innings to grab the early lead. Chloe Moloney singled home Shana Snow in the first. In the second frame Campbell Query led off with a walk and went to second on a bunt by Katie Reese, then scored on a throwing error with Reese advancing to second. Jendy Weppler singled, but was caught attempting to take second, but Reese scored to up the difference to 3-0.In the third, Chelsea Kaunert reached on a single and scored on a throwing error when Apryl Patterson got on by a fielder's choice.The Lady Muskies then added one more in the fourth when Mary Margaret Boda doubled to center to chase home Snow who had reached on a fielder's choice and stole second.Denison cut the deficit to three with a pair of fifth inning runs and picked up another score the sixth, but Diebler kept the Lady Reds at bay to claim the 5-3 win.Boda had a single to go with her RBI double and Kaunert added three singles to pace a nine-hit Muskingum attack. Lauren Lynn smacked a triple and double, while Alex Murray and Jessica Robertson each cracked a double with Murray adding a single as well. Catcher Molly Sack tacked on a pair of singles in the 10-hit Denison assault.In the opener, visiting Denison (12-10) plated four runs in the third inning to grab a lead they would never relinquish adding one in the fourth and matching Muskingum's three in the sixth before adding a insurance run in the seventh for the 10-6 win.Brenner (6-4) went the distance in the circle fanning one and walking three. Ashley Price (5-4) was the starter for the Lady Muskies and absorbed the loss fanning one and giving up one free pass. Valerie Conn came on in the third adding one strikeout and two walks and Sarah Beaver pitched the final two frames.Brie Berkopec had the hot bat for the Lady Big Reds with a home run, double and single, while Lynn added a homer and single, Robertson a triple and double. Hannah Price and Sack each added a pair of singles.Boda paced a 12-hit attack by Muskingum (12-10) with a double and three singles with catcher Aly Mazzei adding a double and Moloney a pair of singles.NEXT-- Muskingum visits Ohio Dominican today at 3:30 p.m.
