In the past the JGHS Football Student Section has not been as big as fans would like it to be, but this year started out with a bang! On August 25, 2017 the senior student section leaders: Tommy Phillips, Matt Leonard, Kaelee Dingey, Alexa Harshbarger, and Mollie Founds got everyone excited at the pep rally. They went over what the student body should know. Kaelee made sure everyone knew to “show up and show out” every week. She emphasized that the whole student body needs to become more involved and really go out of their way to make this year’s student section great. Then came the important thing that no one should forget- the seating chart. Matt went over the “seating rules,” which are seniors fill up all the rows closest to the front, then Juniors, Sophomores, and finally Freshman. There is also no seat saving! They also went over how Wallys would give out a gift to the fan of the week. This person would have to really outdo themselves and give their all to be the best of all the fans. After their talks and a test run of the “roller coaster” everyone was ready for a great year.
The student body definitely got the message, they showed up AND showed out at the first game that night at Meadowbrook. The student section was “Metroboomin’” as Casey Smith had said it would be earlier that day at the pep rally. Fans really kept spirits high with their chanting and the overwhelming size of the student section. Crenos announced that Joseph Clifford won player of the game for our first win against Meadowbrook. Game two at home against Cambridge was just as successful as game one! The JGHS Student Section theme was “Beach Night.” Despite the cold and rain, the student section was just as large as the week before with fans going above and beyond to match the theme. Peyton Dennis’s boogie board that said “BEAT THOSE CATS,” won fan of the week fair and square. Shane Bonner had an outstanding game and won player of the game. As the JG muskies came out victorious once again for game two, fans were ecstatic and ready for the rest of the season. So far, everyone is doing an excellent job of showing up and showing out! This week’s theme will be USA/ Red, White, and Blue Night at home against Sheridan. Kaelee wants to make sure that the students “stay proud and keep it loud,” all season long!
The themes will be announced at the beginning of each week. You can find them on the JG student section twitter page which is @jgmuskies. They’re determined depending on who the opponent is that week and what the weather is looking like. With the weather getting cooler, make sure you’re dressing in layers and showing out!
The football team needs fans’ support this year more than ever. The student section must step up from past years. The student section has already proved that they have the potential to be great. The amount of spirit that has been going around lately is amazing and needs to continue. School spirit is at an all time high and everyone needs to keep it up all year long. Let's have a great year!
