The 2017 boys and girls golf teams are having an exceptional year. The boys golf team went 24-0 in the MVL. The girls golf team did well and finished with a record of 18-15. The Boys golf team will be competing in the regional finals on Monday, October 2nd @ Eaglesticks Golf Club in Zanesville. The winner out of the eight teams will qualify for state. The girls on the other hand finished their season placing 6th out of 12 teams at regionals. The Boys team is coached by Chad Orecchio, and the girls team is coached by Lori and Rich Bubenchik.
Sydney Johnson stated that the most memorable part of her season would’ve been how consistent she stayed. She also enjoyed all the great memories she made with some of her best friends on the team. The most memorable part of Coach Orecchio’s season would’ve been winning the MVL regular season and tournament in such dominating fashion, it was pretty special. 24-0 in the MVL doesn't happen every year. Their tournament win in the River View Black Bear Invitational was special as well. That win displayed how they stood vs other teams in the Eastern District.
Coach Orecchio knew going into the season that the John Glenn Muskies were going to have a good year. With 6 returning letterman, he knew they had a good starting point. The returning letterman finished 2nd in the MVL, were Sectional champions, and District runner-ups.
Their goal each match is to stay consistent as a team. Coach Orecchio thinks it helps the team a lot, being so close. They are the best of friends, always hanging out together on and off the golf course. He enjoys being around them, they’re unique in their own way.
We wish best of luck to the boys and girls golf teams in the future and we hope to see the Boys qualify for state!
